Six Year program

The HBABEd (English Major) PJ is offered at both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses.

An overall B (70%) average in English courses is required.

In addition to English 1115, 2250, 2251 and 2913, students must complete at least eight (8) other FCEs in English. At least one FCE must be chosen from Area 1; at least one FCE must be chosen from Area 2; and at least one FCE must be chosen from Area 3, including at least 0.5 FCE chosen from Type E English courses.

Prior to Entry into Professional Year
In concurrent Education programs at the Primary/Junior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering Honours degree program including all Pre-Professional Program Education requirements. (See Concurrent Degree Programs Information for Education requirements)

First Year:
(a) English 1115
(b) One additional half-course in English at the first-year level
(c) One FCE from Type A courses
(d) One and one-half FCEs from Type B courses
(e) One FCE elective in Science (General Science 1000 recommended) (see Concurrent Education , Content Regulations #1, regarding eligible Science courses)
(f) Education 1050

Students contemplating graduate work should consider language courses among their options.

Second Year:
(a) English 2250, 2251 and 2913
(b) One and one-half FCE in English at the second year level
(c) One half-course in Music or Visual Arts.
(d) One-half FCE from Type B courses
(e) One-half FCE in electives (English excluded)
(f) Education 2050

Third Year:
(a) Two and one-half FCEs in English at the third year level
(b) One additional half-course in English (excluding English 1238 and 1807)
(c) One FCE electives (English allowed, except for English 1238 and 1807)
(c) One-half FCE elective (English excluded)
(d) One-half FCE Education elective (see Electives in the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Courses list)
Note: Concurrent Education students should check the timetable for Pre-Professional Program course offerings.

Fourth Year:
(a) One and one-half FCEs in English at the fourth year level
(b) One and one-half FCEs in English at the third or fourth-year level
(c) Two FCE electives (English courses beyond the first-year level allowed)

Note:
The Indigenous Content Requirement is being met by the inclusion of at least 0.5 FCE chosen from Type E English courses at any year level.
