Six Year program

In the HBASc Interdisciplinary Studies Major, an overall average of 70% is required, with an average of at least 70%.  The Interdisciplinary Studies Major consists of 12 FCEs: two (2) FCEs of Interdisciplinary Studies courses, five (5) FCE in first discipline, and five (5) FCE in second discipline. In Concurrent Education programs at the Primary/Junior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering Honours degree program including all Pre-Professional Program Education requirements (see Degree Programs Information for Education requirements).

Note 1:

All students will satisfactorily complete three Interdisciplinary Studies courses: one-half (0.5) full course equivalents (FCE) at first-year level, one-half (0.5) FCE at third-year level, and one (1) FCE at fourth-year level.

Note 2:

Students must complete five (5) full-course equivalents (FCEs) in one discipline and five (5) FCEs in a second discipline: one (1) FCE each at the first-year level, two (2) FCEs each at the second-year level, and two (2) FCEs each at the third or fourth year level. Eligible disciplines are Anthropology, Biology, Criminology, English, General Science (as defined as a “Teachable” by the Faculty of Education), Geography, History, Media Studies, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. A course may only count toward one discipline.

Note 3:

By the end of four years (20 FCEs), at least three (3) FCEs must be Type A (Humanities) or Type B (Social Sciences) courses; at least three (3) FCEs must be Type C (Engineering, Mathematical and Natural Sciences) or Type D (Health and Behavioural Sciences) courses; and at least one-half (0.5) FCE must be Type E courses. The Indigenous Content Requirement is being met by the inclusion of one-half FCE chosen from the list of Type E courses taken as an elective in any year of the program.

Note 4:

Note 5:

Concurrent Education Primary/Junior students must take an eligible Science course (General Science 1000 recommended) as part of their Type C and D requirements.  See Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Concurrent Content Regulation #1.

 

First Year:

(a) One-half FCE in first year Interdisciplinary Studies
(b) One FCE in first discipline
(c) One FCE in second discipline
(d) One FCE in English, French, or an Indigenous Language (unless first discipline or second discipline is English)
(e) One FCE elective (Type C) at first-year level (General Science 1000 recommended)
(f) Education 1050

Second Year

(a) Two FCEs in first discipline at the second-year level (note the methodological course requirement)
(b) Two FCEs in second discipline at the second-year level
(c) One-half FCE in Music or Visual Arts
(d) Education 2050

Third Year

(a) One FCE in first discipline at third or fourth year level
(b) One FCE in second discipline at third or fourth year level
(c) One-half FCE in third year Interdisciplinary Studies
(d) One-half FCE Education elective (see Electives in the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Courses list)
(e) Two FCEs electives (Note the Type A, B, C, D, and E courses requirement.)

Fourth Year:

(a) One FCE in fourth year Interdisciplinary Studies
(b) One FCE in first discipline at third or fourth year level
(c) One FCE in second discipline at third or fourth year level
(d) Two FCE electives at second-year level or above (Note the Type A, B, C, D, and E courses requirement.)
