Honours BSc, BEd (Anthropology Major) I/S(TB)

Six Year program

Note: The Indigenous Content Requirement in the Anthropology programs is met by taking ANTH 1034.

Prior to Entry into the 2-Year Professional Program
In concurrent Education programs at the Intermediate/Senior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering Honours degree program including all Pre-Professional Program Education requirements. (See Concurrent Degree Programs Information for Education requirements)

Note: Students must choose two teachable subjects. Anthropology courses listed as Science credits (Type C) may be counted toward a General Science teachable. See Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education, Levels and Teachables.

Note:
It is important that BSc and HBSc students adhere to the stipulations that Anthropology majors are advised to seek academic counselling from the first year of their programs onward, and students entering or proceeding in Honours programs must seek counselling for program planning.

 

First Year:
(a) Anthropology 1032 and 1034
(b) One FCE in English, French or an Indigenous Language
(c) Two and one-half FCEs from: Biology 1110, 1130, Chemistry 1110, 1130, Geography 1120, Geology 1110, 1130, Mathematics 0210, 1151, 1152, Business 1513, Physics 1101
(d) Education 1050

Second Year:
(a) Anthropology 2110, 2112, 2137, 2151, 2515, 2517
(b) One and one-half FCE electives
(c) Education 2050

Third Year:
(a) Two FCEs in Anthropology from Type C at a third or fourth year level
(b) One FCE in Anthropology
(c) One FCE elective (History recommended)
(d) One half-course elective
(e) One half-course Education elective (see Electives in the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Courses list)
Note: Concurrent Education students should check the timetable for Pre-Professional Program course offerings.

Fourth Year:
(a) Two FCEs in Anthropology at the fourth-year level
(b) One FCE in Anthropology
(c) Two FCE electives (Chemistry 3131 recommended)

Note:
Honours Thesis. Students wishing to do an honours thesis (Anthropology 4901) in the fourth year of the HBA or the HBSc program must have a faculty advisor by March 1 of their third year and, by March 31, must (a) have a topic approved by the advisor, (b) submit a thesis proposal and (c) provide a preliminary bibliography of at least 20 appropriate references in a format approved by the advisor.
