Honours BA, BEd (English and History Major) I/S(TB)

Six Year program

An overall B (70%) average must be maintained in English and History throughout the program.

Prior to Entry into the 2-Year Professional Program
In concurrent Education programs at the Intermediate/Senior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering Honours degree program including all Pre-Professional Program Education requirements. (See Concurrent Degree Programs Information for Education requirements)

Note:
1. Students must choose two teachable subjects. See Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education, Levels and Teachables.
2. Courses will be chosen in consultation with the appropriate Department.
3. The following courses do not count as English credits:
(a) English as a Second Language (ESL)
(b) English 1238, 1807

First Year:
(a) English 1115 and one additional half-course in English at the first-year level
(b) History 1100
(c) One FCE from Type A courses (English excluded)
(d) One-half FCE from Type B courses (History excluded)
(e) One FCE elective
(f) Education 1050

Note:
A candidate for an Honours BA in English and History is advised to choose one FCE in French or a foreign language as the elective in the first year.

Second Year:
(a) English 2250, 2251 and 2913
(b) One additional half-course in English at the second-year level
(c) History 2510
(d) One and one-half FCEs in History at the second-year level
(e) One-half FCE from Type B courses (History excluded)
(f) Education 2050

Third Year:
(a) Two FCEs in English at the third-year level
(b) Two FCEs in History at the third-year level
(c) One-half FCE elective
(d) One-half FCE Education elective (see Electives in the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Courses list)
Note: Concurrent Education students should check the timetable for Pre-Professional Program cause offerings.

Fourth Year:
(a) One FCE in English at the fourth year level
(b) One FCE in English at the third or fourth year level
(c) Two FCEs in History at the fourth year level
(d) One FCE in History at the fourth year level, or one FCE in English at the third or fourth year level

Note:

Students must take at least 0.5 FCE chosen from Type E English courses at any year level. The Indigenous Content Requirement is being met by the inclusion of 0.5 FCE chosen from Type E English courses and History 2510.
