BA (General Program) (TB)(O)(W)

Three Year program

The General Program degree in Arts attempts to overcome the restrictions of traditional programs by allowing the student as much latitude as possible in choosing courses. The degree is aimed particularly at the mature student. 

The BA (General) can be completed on either the Thunder Bay Campus or Orillia campus or online.  

The degree consists of fifteen (15) full course equivalents (FCE) with the following restrictions:


1. A maximum of seven (7) first year or zero level FCE  may be taken.

2. At least two (2)  FCE must be taken at the third year level or above from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities for the BA degree.

3. Eleven (11) FCE of the fifteen FCE for the BA degree must be from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

4. No more than four (4) FCE electives may be taken outside of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

5. The Indigenous Content Requirement is being met by the inclusion of one-half FCE chosen from the list of Type E courses.

6. The last five (5) FCE must be taken while registered in the Bachelor of Arts (General Program) except with permission of the Dean.

7. A minimum average of 60% is required in the courses taken from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

First Year:
(a) Four FCEs from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities
(b) One-half FCE from Type E courses
(c) One-half FCE elective

Second Year:
(a) Three FCEs from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities
(b) Two FCE electives

Third Year:
(a) Two FCEs from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the third or fourth year level
(b) Two FCEs from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities
(c) One FCE elective
