Honours Bachelor of Education (Indigenous Teacher Education) Primary/Junior

Five Year program
A cumulative average of 65% in all courses is required. An HBEd (Indigenous Teacher Education) student must maintain an overall average of 70% in Indigenous Teacher Education major courses. See Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education, Academic Regulations, regulation #3, regarding continuing on probation. It is recommended that students choose courses for their Social Sciences and Humanities, or Science and Environmental Studies electives that are taught in a primary/elementary school. Courses in Indigenous Languages (Second Language) and in Indigenous Learning are particularly recommended.

Courses used towards the major in Indigenous Teacher Education are identified below*.

First Year:

(b) English 1116, and one of English 1015, 1016 or 1115
(c) Indigenous Learning 1100
(d) One FCE in Indigenous Language (or Indigenous Learning) chosen from:
Cree 1010/Indigenous Learning 1011 and Cree 1012/Indigenous Learning 1013; Ojibwe 1013/Indigenous Learning 1014 and Ojibwe 1015/Indigenous Learning 1016; or Ojibwe 1014/Indigenous Learning 1015 and Ojibwe 1016/Indigenous Learning 1017
(e) General Science 1000

Note:

Courses in Indigenous Languages other than Ojibwe and Cree may be considered for credit by permission of the Chair of the Department of Aboriginal Education.

Second Year:

(c) English 2717/Indigenous Learning 2717 and a half FCE in English chosen from: English 3750, 3751, or 2510
(d) 1.5 FCE elective (excluding Education)
(e) One FCE chosen from Type A, B or C courses at the second year level or above, preferably in a subject taught in a primary/elementary school
