Anthropology is the integrated biological and socio-cultural investigation of humankind, from the time of our pre-human ancestors to the present, and from small to large complex societies. Lakehead University offers a broad undergraduate program covering biological, archaeological, and socio-cultural anthropology, as well as more specialized concentrations on archaeological science, medical anthropology, and applied anthropology. The Department of Anthropology faculty members have regional and international research interests, including the Boreal Forest area, North America, Latin America, Africa, and Europe.

The Department of Anthropology offers programs leading to three year BA and BSc, four year BA and BSc, and four year HBA and HBSc degrees. Anthropology programs are also offered concurrently with a BEd from the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education in the Faculty of Education and an Anthropology Major is available in the HBASc and HBASc/BEd offered at the Orillia Campus. Anthropology majors are advised to seek academic counselling from the first year of their programs onward, and students entering or proceeding in Honours programs must seek counselling for program planning.

Students are also advised of the interdisciplinary minor concentrations in Gerontology, and Northern Studies, and the interdisciplinary programs in Geoarchaeology.

The following Anthropology program offerings are available:
