Bachelor of Arts (English Major)/Bachelor of Education P/J (TB)(O)

Five Year program

The BABEd (English Major) PJ is offered at both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses.

An overall 60% average in all English courses is required.

Prior to Entry in the 2-Year Professional Program
In concurrent Education programs at the Primary/Junior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering Bachelor degree program including all Pre-Professional Program Education requirements (See Concurrent Degree Programs Information for Education requirements)

In addition to English 1115, 2250 and 2251, students must complete at least 4.5 FCEs in English, including at least 0.5 FCE chosen from Type E English courses.

The following courses do not count as English credits:
a) English as a Second Language (ESL)
b) English 1238, 1807

First Year:
(a) English 1115
(b) One-half FCE in English at the first-year level
(c) One FCE elective from Type A courses (English excluded)
(d) One and one-half FCE electives from Type B courses
(e) One FCE elective in Science (General Science 1000 recommended) (see Concurrent Bachelor of Education, Concurrent Content Regulations #1, regarding eligible Science courses)
(f) Education 1050

Second Year:
(a) English 2250 and 2251
(b) One and one-half FCEs in English at the second-year level (English 2038 does not count for the purpose of fulfilling this requirement)
(c) One-half FCE elective in Music or Visual Arts
(d) One-half FCE elective from Type B courses
(e) One FCE electives
(f) Education 2050

Third Year:
(a) Two FCEs in English at the third-year level
(b) One-half FCE in English at the second or third-year level
(c) One and one-half FCE electives (English allowed)
(d) One-half FCE elective (English excluded)
(e) One-half FCE Education elective (see Electives in the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Courses list)
Note: Concurrent Education students should check the timetable for Pre-Professional course offerings.


The Indigenous Content Requirement is being met by the inclusion of at least 0.5 FCE chosen from Type E English courses at any year level.
