Honours Bachelor of Arts (English Major)/Bachelor of Education I/S (Five Year Accelerated Program) (TB)

Five Year Accelerated program
A student who wishes to complete their concurrent program in 5 years will need to take courses in Spring/Summer as outlined below. In order to accelerate their program, a student should consult the Chair of the Department of English in their first year demonstrating an overall 70% average has been attained in the English courses taken up to that time. To continue in the accelerated program, an overall 70% average must be maintained in the English courses.

Prior to Entry into the 2-Year Professional Program
In concurrent Education programs at the Intermediate/Senior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering Honours degree program including all Pre-Professional Program Education requirements. (See Concurrent Degree Priograms Information for Education requirements)

Note: Students must choose two teachable subjects, the first of which is English for students in the Honours BA, BEd (English Major) degree program. (See Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education requirements)

Note: The Indigenous Content Requirement is being met by the inclusion of one-half FCE chosen from the list of Type E courses.

Note: Students who wish to accelerate their program will need to use the following pathway, in conslultation with the Chair of the Department of English.

First Year: 

(a) English 1115
(b) One-half FCE in English at the first-year level
(c) One FCE elective from Type A courses (English excluded)
(d) One and one-half FCE electives from Type B courses
(e) One FCE elective in second teaching field (if already covered by requirements (c) or (d), an open elective can be chosen)
(f) Education 1050

Spring/Summer
(a) Education 2050
(b) One FCE in English at the second-year level

Second Year:
(a) English 2250, 2251 and 2913
(b) One-half FCEs in English at the second-year level
(c) One-half FCE in English (excluding English 1238 and 1807)
(d) One FCE electives (English allowed, except for English 1238 and 1807)
(e) One-half FCE elective from Type B courses
(f) One FCE elective in second teaching field

Spring/Summer
(a) One-half FCE Education elective
(b) One-half FCE in English at the third year level
(c) One FCE electives

Third Year:
(a) Two FCEs in English at the third year level
(b) One and one-half FCEs in English at the fourth year level
(c) One and one-half FCEs in English at the third or fourth-year level

Spring/Summer
(a) One FCE electives
(b) One-half FCE elective (English excluded)

Fourth and Fifth Year (2 Year Professional Program)
