Linguistics 0300 Introduction to Language
A general introduction to linguistics, focussing primarily on the structure, acquisition, functions and development of language in social contexts. Among topics for discussion will be: the origins of language, historical change, and language families; the study of meaning and the relationship between words and things; how language is processed in the brain and how languages are learned; communication, cultural identity, language norms, and the uses and abuses of language.
