Education 1410 Foundations of Indigenous Education in a Canadian Context
An introduction to Indigenous Education in Canada. A critical examination of historical and contemporary issues in education illuminating the impact of federal, provincial and local policies on the near demise of and recent efforts to revitalize Algonquian languages and cultures. An exploration of recent literature that highlights culturally appropriate and culturally based Indigenous education grounded in Indigenous philosophies and the goal of self-determination promoting an understanding and appreciation of Indigenous perspectives. Strategies for integrating this knowledge into personal understanding and into the work and practice of educators.
