English 3952 National Cinemas and Film Movements
A study of the development of national cinemas, such as Canadian, Spanish, and French cinemas. We will explore the intersections of the national with political and aesthetic movements, including the French New Wave, German Expressionism, and Soviet Montage, as well as counter cinema, and the political and cultural resistance to the national with the emergence of transnational cinema.

Two FCEs in English, including at least one half-FCE at the second-year level, or two FCEs in Media Studies, including at least one-half FCE at the second-year level, or permission of the Chair of the Department of English.
