A critical analysis of HIV and other infectious diseases in Canada and within a global context. Emphasis is placed on the epidemiological, cultural, and socio-political aspects of surveillance and response to infectious diseases. Topics include the historical linkages between sexuality, gender, race, social class, disease, and stigma; the social determinants of health; and legal, ethics, and political dilemmas over disease prevention, treatment, and human rights.
