New Changes for the 2004-2005 Lakehead University Calendar

 

The following summary outlines changes from previous 2003-2004 academic programs, courses, regulations and admission requirements, approved by the Senate of Lakehead University, that will appear in the hard copy of the 2004-2005 Calendar and are meant to become effective for the 2004-2005 academic year. The changes already appear in this web calendar. Additional changes and updates not mentioned below are posted directly into the web calendar as they become effective. Items approved by Senate, or particularly noteworthy, will also be summarized in an Addendum to the Calendar of this academic year.

The web calendar should always be consulted for the newest information.

Academic Schedule
  Note that the September 2004 fall term start date for classes is Thursday, September 9, 2004, not the Monday (13th) following Labour Day.
     

Fees
  Tuition fees for Canadian and Landed Immigrant Students remain the same for 2004-2005. Several changes and increases in Activity Fees. Convocation gown and hood rental fee will be charged in 2004-2005. Note payment deadline and fee refund dates as well as payment methods.
     

Admission Requirements and Registration
  Requirements for Admission to Undergraduate Degree Programs
- admission criteria and definition of Adult Students, replaced with General Admission Requirements and new expanded wording to cover all student types

  Admission Change:
- high school students enter at two points ­ those who are eligible will enter Yr 1 and those who are not eligible will enter the Common Year in Applied Science first
- transfer students (who have Engineering diplomas from community colleges) enter in the summer after Yr 2 and continue into Yr 3 and 4 of the BEng Post-Diploma program (in all five areas)
Program Change:
-replace Common Year of Eng Tech programs with Common Year in Applied Science for students not ready to start Yr 1 of the degree program
-replace Engineering Technology and Engineering Degree old programs (before 2004-2005) with new 4 Yr BEng (in all five areas) ­ all students graduate with Eng Tech diploma at end of Yr 2 (allowed to terminate program at this point) and BEng at end of Yr 4 (Note that Yr 2 and Yr 3 students will be allowed to complete the requirements of the old program)
-transfer students (with Engineering Diplomas outside Lakehead University) now admitted to BEng Post-Diploma program (starting summer before Yr 3)
