New Changes for the 2006-2007 Lakehead University Calendar

 

The following summary outlines changes from previous 2005-2006 academic programs, courses, regulations and admission requirements, approved by the Senate of Lakehead University, that will appear in the hard copy of the 2006-2007 Calendar and are meant to become effective for the 2006-2007 academic year. The changes already appear in this web calendar. Additional changes and updates that do not require the approval of the Senate of the University and are not mentioned below, are posted directly into the web calendar as they become effective. Items approved by Senate, or particularly noteworthy items, that do not appear in the 2006-2007 hard copy calendar by publication date will also be summarized in an Addendum to the Calendar.

Readers should always consult the web calendar for the most current information.

  MISCELLANEOUS

     

Academic Schedule
  Notes:
After the initial approval of the Academic Schedule, the following revisions were made to the fall 2006 term:
1. The start date of the fall 2006 term is changed from Monday, September 11th to Thursday, September 7th and all subsequent academic years will start on the first Thursday after Labour Day.
2. The Forestry class start date is changed from September 18 to 14. (Field School dates change from September 5-16 to September 5-13.)
3. The Class end date is changed from December 1 to November 29.
4. The Class Make-up Day (except Education) is changed from December 4 to November 30.
5. Examinations start date is changed from December 7 to December 4.
6. The December study period is changed from December 5-6 to December 1-3.
7. The Orientation for fall and full year courses is changed from September 5-8 to September 5-6.
8. The Final date for course withdrawal without academic penalty from fall term courses is changed from November 6 to November 2.

Changes were made in the withdrawal dates for spring 2006 courses, subsequent to the publication of the 2005-2006 Calendar. Please note that the final date for course withdrawal without academic penalty from 2006 spring session first term half-courses is changed from May 4 to May 11, from 2006 spring session second term half-courses is changed from May 26 to June 5, and from 2006 spring session full courses is changed from May 11 to May 25.

-the Outdoor Recreation Field Trip Fee has increased from $140 to $160

  Admission Change:
Requirements for Admission to Undergraduate Degree Programs

- Correction: Admission to Forestry - HBScF program - includes one credit from Grade 12 U or M (not U) Geography
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- reword admission information for Native Nurses Entry Program: inclusion of college transfer students for admission consideration as well as new requirement for academic upgrading in Biology and Chemistry
Equivalent Certificates
- update information regarding admission for students from USA, including SAT or ACT test scores, to match B average required for Canadian high school students

  Regulation Change:
- revision to Faculty of Business Administration faculty regulation #7 - first class standing now calculated on degree requirements of third and fourth year (instead of fourth year only) for HBComm, and on degree requirements of third year for BAdmin (effective for 2006-2007)

  Regulation Change:
- add new Academic Regulation #2 Music or Visual Arts Requirement (and renumber all other regulations)
-remove old program requirement in Academic Regulation #4: Students who entered the program prior to September 1, 2003 require a cumulative average of at least 60%.

Undergraduate Studies in Education
  Program Change:
- where required in all BA and BSc concurrent Education programs, remove the old program requirement: Students who entered the program prior to September 1, 2003 require a 60% cumulative average for entry into the Professional Year.
