Awarded to an in-course concurrent Humanities and Social Sciences/Education student on the basis of financial need. Special consideration will be given to relatives of the Canadian Daughters League and students who reside in Thunder Bay or immediate area.

Thomas B. Miller Bursary
$1,080 (O-MILBI)
Created in 1996 by family, friends and colleagues in loving memory of Thomas Beech Miller in celebration of his life. Awarded to a deserving in-course fine arts and humanities student on the basis of financial need.

Northwestern Ontario Law Association Bursary
$2,800 (O2-NWLBI)
Created originally in 1990 by members of the law associations for the Districts of Kenora, Rainy River, and Thunder Bay on the occasion of the University's Silver Jubilee and supplemented in 2005 to mark the centennial of the Thunder Bay Law Association through the support of lawyers in Thunder Bay and the region. Provided to an in-course student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities on the basis of financial need and satisfactory academic standing.

Ronald J. Whistle Lakehead University 30th Anniversary Bursary

Created in 1996 by Michael A. Whistle in honour of his father, Ronald, who was employed in Campus Development at Lakehead University for over 16 years. Awarded to an in-course student majoring in Economics. Preference will be given to a student from Thunder Bay.

Colleen Cupples Memorial Bursary

Created in 1997 in loving memory by the friends of Colleen Cupples, BA English '67, whose professional life was devoted to Canada's foreign service. Awarded to a student majoring in English or Political Science on the basis of financial need and a minimum 'B+' standing.

Christina Fero Memorial Bursary in English

Established in 2000 by the children of Christina Fero in loving memory. Awarded to a student majoring in English on the basis of financial need and satisfactory academic achievement.

Lakehead University English Studies Bursary

Awarded to a student entering the final year of the Honours Bachelor of Arts degree program in English on the basis of financial need and a minimum B+ standing.

The Rideout Memorial Bursary

Established in 1995 in memory of John Rideout. Awarded to an in-course student majoring in English on the basis of financial need and satisfactory academic standing.

Awarded to a student majoring in History on the basis of financial need.

James P. Lovekin Memorial Bursary
$510 (O-LOVBI)
Created in 1997 by Mrs. C. Ann Lovekin in loving memory of her husband. Professor Emeritus Lovekin taught at the Lakehead University Faculty of Education from 1970-1980. Awarded to a deserving student registered in the Faculty of Education and majoring in History on the basis of financial need. Preference shall be given to a student of North American Native ancestry.

Awarded to a student in a Department of Languages program on the basis of financial need. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in the Finnish Minor program.

Emil Dolphin Memorial Bursary

Established by the Department of Languages in memory of Professor Emil Dolphin, who served as Department Chair for a period of 13 years until his retirement in 1999. Awarded to a student who is registered in a language program on the basis of financial need and satisfactory academic achievement.

Hendrika Schuurhuis-Schonberger Bursary
$500 (O-HSSBI)
Awarded to a deserving in-course student specializing in French to enable the recipient to pursue his/her studies in French at Lakehead University. Awarded on the basis of financial need and a minimum 'B' average.

Thunder Country World-Wide Travel Management Bursary
$540 (O-TCWBI)
Awarded to a student in the Department of Languages on the basis of financial need. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in the Finnish Minor Program.

Established in 1995 by family and friends in memory of Wilma Ayre; Nurse, Musician, Teacher, Administrator, Wife and Mother, who touched many people with her kindness on her way through life. Two bursaries awarded to continuing Music students of 'B' standing who are in need of financial assistance.

Audrey and John Dunn Memorial Bursary

Established by family and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Dunn who were long-time residents of Northwestern Ontario and whose love and appreciation of music were important aspects of their lives. Awarded on the basis of financial need to an in-course student in Music. Preference shall be given to a student from Northwestern Ontario.

The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra Bursary

Created in 1997 by 4th year Honours Bachelor of Music student, Samantha Wrenshall and volunteers of the Gala, "Some Enchanted Evening", in support of the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund. Awarded to an in-course Music student on the basis of financial need and minimum B standing.

The Reverend Canon Alvin J. Thomson Memorial Bursary

Created in 1998 by his family in loving memory of the Reverend Canon Alvin J. Thomson, who was minister in the Anglican Churches in Thunder Bay from 1947 until his death in 1993. Awarded to in-course students majoring in religious studies, on the basis of financial need and satisfactory academic standing.


SOCIOLOGY

Dr. Anita B. Chen Lakehead University 30th Anniversary Bursary in Sociology
$540 (O-ABCBI)
Established in 1996, on the occasion of her retirement by friends, relatives and colleagues in recognition of her contribution to Lakehead University and to the Department of Sociology. Awarded annually to a full-time honours student majoring in Sociology (with a Gerontology minor) who has completed his/her third year of studies at this University and is proceeding to the fourth year. The bursary is based on financial need and a minimum B average in Sociology and Gerontology courses.

Dr. Gerd Schroeter Memorial Bursary

Established in 1999 by the family, friends and colleagues of Professor Gerd Schroeter in memory of his contributions to Lakehead University and the Department of Sociology. Awarded annually to a full-time student in the second, third or fourth year of either the Bachelor of Arts or Honours Bachelor of Arts program, majoring in Sociology. The bursary is based on financial need and a minimum 'B' average in Sociology.

The Doreen Jetten Memorial Bursary in Visual Arts

Established in 1997 by the family of Doreen Jetten, long-time resident of Thunder Bay and prominent Canadian artist. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a 2nd or 3rd year student in Visual Arts. Preference will be given to a student demonstrating involvement in the local arts community.

The Harold Lockwood Memorial Bursary

Established in 1990 by the family and friends in memory of Mr. Harold Lockwood, well-known former fire chief of Thunder Bay, city alderman and strong community leader. Awarded on the basis of financial need and satisfactory standing to a student in Biology or Visual Arts in any year level.
