Awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Business Administration by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee. The Alumni Association of Lakehead University Entrance Award for Women in Engineering
$650 (AAWEE)
The Alumni Association of Lakehead University has endowed an award to encourage women to enter engineering programs. The recipient of this award should have no less than a 75% average and will provide a 500-word essay on why this award is important to her. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Faculty of Engineering. Canada Malting Entrance Scholarship in Engineering

Awarded to a high-ranking student who is entering the first year of the Electrical Engineering Degree program.

Patrick (Pat) Dutchak Memorial Award

Created by family and friends in loving memory of Pat Dutchak, a second-year Mechanical Engineering student who passed away in November, 2005. Provided to an entrance student in the Faculty of Engineering who has participated in sports while in high school and who has demonstrated an appreciation for the outdoors. Fort William Rotary Club - Steven Syme Memorial Silver Jubilee Scholarship

Established by the Fort William Rotary Club, in memory of Steven Syme who exemplified the Four-Way Test. Awarded to a high ranking student from Northwestern Ontario entering the Engineering program.

Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education Entrance Scholarship
$1000 (A-OPEFE)
Awarded by the Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education, on the recommendation of the Faculty of Engineering to a female and a male Ontario Scholar entering an accredited engineering program who are well-rounded students and exhibit characteristics of leadership. Awarded to a high ranking student entering the Chemical Engineering program.

The Simons Foundation Scholarship for Women in Engineering
$500 (SFWEE)
The Simons Foundation has endowed a scholarship at Lakehead University to encourage women to enter engineering programs. The recipient of the award will be an outstanding woman scholar who by means of a 500 word essay explains how engineering enhances and enriches the quality of life for society. Logozzo Silver Jubilee Scholarship

Established by members of the Logozzo family in memory of their father, Mr. Samuel Logozzo. Awarded to a high ranking student from Northwestern Ontario entering the Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree Program.

 

OUTDOOR RECREATION, PARKS AND TOURISM

"Canada Sea to Sea" Scholarships
2 x $500 (CSEAE)
Established to commemorate the retracing of the 8,600 km Alexander McKenzie Voyageur Route, from Quebec City to Bella Coola, British Columbia. Led by Dr. Jim Smithers, Professor Emeritus, Lakehead University Outdoor Recreation students arrived in Bella Coola, on July 22, 1993, 200 years to the day of the arrival of Alexander McKenzie. Awarded to students entering the Outdoor Recreation, History or Geography program, on the basis of academic standing.

MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES IN SCIENCE

The Ross Rogers Scholarship in Science
6 x $1,230 (RRSSE)
Created in 1998 by Ross Rogers, a long-time resident of Thunder Bay, a Second World War veteran discharged as a Major, and educator who had his beginnings as a teacher in Upsala, Ontario in 1934, Geraldton, and from the late 40's as a teacher, guidance counsellor, and principal of Gron Morgan High School, retiring in 1973. Awarded to a high-standing entrance undergraduate students entering a Bachelor of Science degree program on the basis of a detailed statement of the applicant's interest and career plans in science. Preference will be given to high school graduates of the former Port Arthur area and to students from communities east of Thunder Bay, with a minimum of one scholarship awarded to the Geraldton/Longlac area. An equal number of scholarships will be given to deserving male and female students. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

BIOLOGY

Dr. Marshall Blanchard Dean Scholarship

$750 (MBDSE)
Created through an estate gift of Marshall Macdougall Dean, in memory of his father, Dr. Marshall Blanchard Dean, pioneer physician of Fort William. Awarded on the basis of academic standing to an entrance student in biology considering studies in medicine. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

COMPUTER SCIENCE

Lakehead University Computer Science Scholarships
4 x $1,500 (LUSCE)
Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Computer Science to Canadian citizens/permanent residents registering in the HBSc Computer Science Cooperative Degree program. A minimum scholarship entrance average of 80% or the equivalent is required. Additional criteria to be considered include: recommendations from high school Computer Science teachers, and evidence of superior ability in Mathematics and Computer Science. Bora Laskin Memorial Scholarship
$900 (BLMSE)
Established in 1975 by the Norman M. Paterson Foundation in memory of the Right Honourable Bora Laskin, who was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1971 to 1980. This scholarship is awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Physics to entrance students majoring in Physics. Awarded on the basis of academic performance and a detailed statement of the applicant's interest and career plans in Physics. Preference will be given to students pursuing studies and/or work in the field of energy and environmental science. In-course students are eligible to apply, only if the scholarship is unawarded at the entrance level. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

HISTORY

Polish Combatants R.C.L. Branch 219 Silver Jubilee Scholarship
$520 (SJPRE)
Established by the Polish Combatants Association Branch #1 of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 219 in memory of all the Polish people whose lives were drastically altered by the Second World War. Awarded to a high-ranking student of Polish ancestry entering Lakehead University in any program. If there is no student who satisfies the ancestry requirement, preference will be given to a student majoring in History. Awarded to a high ranking student entering the Honours Bachelor of Arts (Music) program or the Honours Bachelor of Music degree. Awarded in the fall by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Chair, Department of Music, on the basis of music performance. Contact the Department of Music to register in the Department of Music's Fall 2007-2008 Audition.

The Elli Maria Ranta Entrance Award
$150 (EMRME)
Awarded to a student, preferably from Northwestern Ontario, who is entering his/her first year in the Honours Bachelor of Arts (Music) or Honours Bachelor of Music program at Lakehead University. The focus in this award will be citizenship along with academic ability. The candidate will be selected by the Department of Music on the basis of auditions and interviews. Contact the Department of Music to register in the Department of Music's Fall 2007-2008 Audition.
