Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay Lakehead University 30th Anniversary Award
$260 (ALZAI)
Awarded to an in-course student in any discipline who displays a special interest in Alzheimer Disease either through academic, community or family involvement. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Jennifer Domansky Memorial Scholarship
$920 (JDMSI)
Created by family and friends, in loving memory of Jennifer Domansky, who tragically passed away in 2003. Awarded to an in-course student in any program, participating in varsity athletics and maintaining a minimum 80% average. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

The Jewish Community of Thunder Bay Shaarey Shomayim Congregation Silver Jubilee Award
$580 (SJJCI)
Awarded to an undergraduate student in the final year of any degree program with a minimum 'B' standing or to a graduate student. Preference shall be given to a student of Jewish heritage who has demonstrated involvement in his/her Jewish Community, the Jewish Community of Thunder Bay or LUSU Jewish Students' Society. This award may be received only one time by the applicant. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

The Arthur and Ruth Kajander Merit Award
$5,110 (ARKAI)
Created in 1998 by the Arthur and Ruth Kajander family. Awarded to an in-course undergraduate student. Priority will be given to students with an overall average of 85% or above. Applicants will be considered on the basis of academic excellence in Math and Science, demonstrated leadership and social responsibility, and an appreciation for the impact of a well rounded liberal education on an individual's quality of life and personal development. Financial need will be considered. In general, applicants will be selected based on academic achievement, civic mindedness and their ability to communicate these attributes effectively both orally and in writing. An interview will be required for short-listed candidates. The student must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant of Canada and must have lived in Ontario for at least twelve consecutive months. A Lakehead University Arthur and Ruth Kajander Merit Award Application is required and is available online on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

The Maurice "Moe" Ktytor Memorial Award
$2,990 (O2-MKMAI)
Created in 2004 by friends and colleagues, in honour of Moe, whose spirit and commitment spanned his 35-year career with Lakehead University. Awarded to an in-course student, who through community involvement, demonstrates a commitment to the betterment of his or her community. Financial need will be considered. A Lakehead University Maurice "Moe" Ktytor Memorial Award Application is required and is available online on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Lakehead University Athletic Awards
Number of awards and value vary.
Established in 2001-2002, to recognize in-course varsity athletes at Lakehead University. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated excellence in a varsity sport and commitment to the team. Recipients must have achieved a 70% average in the previous academic year as a full-time student-athlete at Lakehead University. Recipients must meet the CIS and OUA eligibility criteria. A Lakehead University Athletic Awards Application is required. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Sub-Committee on Athletic Awards. In-course - refers to students who have completed one or more years of study at Lakehead University. NOTE: that transfer students in their first year at Lakehead University are not eligible. A Lakehead University Athletic Award Application is required and is available online on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Henry Lianga Memorial Award
$260 (HLMAI)
Established in 1984 in memory of Henry Lianga, a student athlete who participated in wrestling at Lakehead University. Presented annually to a 3rd or 4th year student on the basis of a minimum 'B' standing and outstanding athletic ability and leadership at Lakehead University. Preference will be given to student athletes who participate in wrestling. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Undergraduate Scholarships Officer. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Logozzo Award
$330 (LOAWI)
Established in 1984 in memory of Mr. Samuel Logozzo, this award will be presented annually to a student from Northwestern Ontario registered in the 3rd or 4th year of any program. The award recognizes academic achievement (a minimum of 'B' standing) as well as excellence and leadership in varsity athletics. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Undergraduate Scholarships/Awards Officer. Mr. and Mrs. James MacAllan Munro Family Memorial Prize - Poetry
$300 (MMPOI)
Poets among Lakehead University students are encouraged to submit their unpublished poems to the Department of English. The submissions will be judged by three members of the Department of English whose decisions will be final. A Lakehead University Mr. and Mrs. James MacAllan Munro Family Memorial Prize - Poetry Entry form is available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Mr. and Mrs. James MacAllan Munro Family Memorial Prize - Prose
$300 (MMPRI)
To be awarded annually to a student at Lakehead University on the basis of competition. Entries may be either fiction or non-fiction. All submissions will be judged by three members of the Department of English whose decision will be final. A Lakehead University Mr. and Mrs. James MacAllan Munro Family Memorial Prize - Prose Entry form is available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

The Bridget Veronica Morton Memorial Award

$320 (BVMMI)
Award to a continuing student of Native Canadian Heritage on the basis of academic standing, leadership and participation in extra curricular activities which foster Native culture. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Polish Alliance of Canada Ladies Circle Branch 19 Award
$170 (PACCI)
Awarded annually on the basis of need and satisfactory academic performance to a full-time undergraduate student of Polish origin or his/her spouse, enrolled in any program or year level at Lakehead University. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Polish Combatants R.C.L. Branch 219 Past Presidents' Award
$250 (PCPPI)
Established by the Polish Combatants Association Branch #1 of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 219, in memory of all the Polish people whose lives were drastically altered by the Second World War. Awarded to a high-ranking continuing student. Preference shall be given to a student of Polish ancestry. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

The Poulin Award
An award for outstanding citizenship presented to the full-time student selected by his/her fellows, the faculty and administration as contributing most to the welfare of the University through his/her student activities. Current members of the Lakehead University Student Union; President, Vice-President (Finance) and Vice-President (Student Issues) are considered eligible for nomination. A Poulin Award Nomination Form is required. Nomination Form is available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

The President's Awards (Undergraduate)

Four awards maximum
Awards will be given annually to full-time or part-time graduating students on the basis of academic performance. These students must have occupied positions of responsibility in student organizations and/or by their activities and achievements, have made contributions that have earned the special gratitude of a Department, School, Faculty and/or the University. A President's Award Nomination Form is required. Nomination Form is available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

John Zanatta Memorial Awards
2 x $580 (JZMAI)
Established in 1990 in memory of John Zanatta, a student-athlete and former basketball coach at Lakehead University. Awarded to a second, third or fourth year student on the basis of a minimum of 'B' standing and outstanding athletic ability. Student must also portray leadership qualities within the University setting. Preference will be given to a student-athlete participating in basketball. Financial need may be considered. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Undergraduate Scholarships/Awards Officer. Robert C. Addison Scholarship

Awarded to a student in a degree program who achieves high academic standing.

George I. Dawosyr Memorial Award
$680 (DGMAI)
Established in 1991 in memory of a former Forestry library staff member and Slavic language specialist at Lakehead University. Awarded annually to a high-ranking student who has taken or is taking Library and Information Studies courses.

Diana Kertland Memorial Award
2 x $950 (DKMAI)
Established in perpetuity, in memory of former Chief Librarian of Lakehead University. Awarded annually to students who has taken or is taking Library and Information Studies courses.

The Legrow Scholarships
5 x $630, 8 x $310 (LGLMI/LGGMI)
Established in perpetuity by the estate of Gloria M. and Lewis N. Legrow. Awarded to high ranking full-time students from different faculties who have completed one or more years at Lakehead University.

Dr. Crawford C. McCullough Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 (DCMMI)
Awarded to a student who in the prior year successfully completed the first year of a university program, and who intends to proceed to a degree in the Social Sciences and Humanities or Science with the intention of pursuing a career in nursing or medicine.

Dr. John E. McCutcheon Memorial Scholarship
$520 (DJMSI)
Created by Muriel McCutcheon, in loving memory of her husband. Awarded to an in-course student with high academic standing, in any field of study.

Peter McKellar Spence Memorial Scholarship
$300 (A-PMSMI)
Awarded to a student who achieves high academic standing. Those going on in Science, particularly Medicine or Nursing, will be given preference.

Tim Ryan Memorial Scholarship
$270 (TRMSI)
Established in perpetuity, in memory of Dean Tim Ryan, by his many friends. Awarded to a high ranking student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities entering the fourth year of his/her program. The scholarship is to be rotated among the Departments.

Thunder Bay Public Library Award
$130 (TBPLI)
Awarded to an in-course full-time or part-time student who has taken or is taking Library and Information Studies courses.
