GERONTOLOGY

Dorothea Crittenden Essay Awards in Studies of the Elderly
2 x $130 (DCEAI)
The Dorothea Crittenden Essay Award in Studies of the Elderly is offered to encourage students to engage in research regarding society's role in the changing needs of the elderly. Students are requested to submit the following to their academic unit: a letter of application and their essay. The academic unit will forward their selection to the Financial Aid Office, Lakehead University. Students registered full-time at Lakehead University in an undergraduate or graduate program in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Nursing may enter the competition. Since awards are made to two disciplines each year, on a rotating basis, students are advised to clarify eligible disciplines with the Financial Aid Office. KINESIOLOGY

The Baziuk Family Sports Medicine Undergraduate Award
$570 (BFSMI)
Awarded to a third or fourth year student who is enrolled in the Honours Kinesiology degree program. The student must have a minimum 'B' standing and have contributed to sports medicine and/or Kinesiology at Lakehead University. Financial need may also be considered. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Dr. John L. Remus Kinesiology Award
$320 (DJLRI)
Awarded on the recommendation of the Sport Medicine Committee to a student entering the fourth year Kinesiology program at Lakehead University who demonstrates good academic standing. Community involvement and special needs may be considered. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.


NURSING

Doris Baziuk and Sylvia Anne Benser Nursing Award
$250 (DBSAI)
Awarded on the recommendation of the School of Nursing to a third or fourth year student who completed second or third year, respectively, with at least 75% and who has displayed leadership qualities and community involvement. Financial need may also be considered. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

Frances Cowan (nee Forester) Memorial Award
$2,570 (O3-FCMAI)
Created in 2005 by her nephew, Edward Williams, in loving memory of Frances Cowan (nee Forester) in recognition of her career as a nurse and to celebrate her passion for the nursing profession. Awarded to an in-course nursing student with high academic standing who demonstrates exceptional dedication to patients. Financial need will also be considered. The recipient will be determined on the recommendation of the School of Nursing. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

The Lucy Migliazza Memorial Nursing Award
$260 (LMMNI)
Established in July 1987 in memory of Lucy Migliazza by her classmates, friends and family. To be awarded by nomination to a student entering the 3rd or 4th year of the Nursing Program, on the basis of community service and participation in student affairs. Financial need may be a consideration. The recipient will be determined on the recommendation of the School of Nursing Scholarship/Awards Committee. Tom Osipenko Memorial Nursing Scholarship
$470 (OTMSI)
Established in 1991 by the family, colleagues and friends of Tom Osipenko. Awarded to a student who is a long-time resident of the City of Thunder Bay and who is a third year nursing student intending to register in the fourth year of the Nursing Degree program. Awarded on the basis of high academic standing and demonstrated leadership and concern for others. Preference will be given to a student interested in gerontology. Financial need may be considered. OUTDOOR RECREATION, PARKS AND TOURISM

Tanya Rintoul Memorial Award

$410 (TRMAI)
Created in 1997 by family and friends in loving memory of Tanya Rintoul. Awarded to a student entering the fourth year of the Honours Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation/BSc (Natural Science Major) program on the basis of financial need and a minimum 'B' standing. The student must demonstrate active involvement in environmental issues. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.


SOCIAL WORK

The Vince Bogdan Memorial Scholarship

$350 (VBMSI)
Established in 1993 in memory of Vince Bogdan by his family and friends as well as students and colleagues at Lakehead University. Awarded to a high ranking third or fourth year Social Work student with financial need. Preference shall be given to a single parent. Application available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

General Hospital of Port Arthur School of Nursing Alumnae Scholarship
$680 (GHPSI)
Created by the General Hospital of Port Arthur School of Nursing Alumnae, 1909-1970; and awarded to a third or fourth year nursing student of high academic standing, who demonstrates attitudes that promote the patient's welfare. Recipients will be determined on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Dolores Kivi Award in Nursing
$500 (A-DKNAI)
Created by the children of Dolores Kivi, in honour of her birthday. Awarded to an in-course Nursing student with high academic standing who also demonstrates outstanding care-giving and dedication to clients. The recipient will be determined on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

The Myrna Lou (Evans) Kristensen Award in Nursing
$230 (MLKAI)
To be awarded to a student entering his/her second year in the School of Nursing at Lakehead University. This award will recognize academic excellence and outstanding student citizenship and is awarded in perpetuity on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Doris Johnston Leslie Memorial Scholarship
$510 (DJLII)
Established by Miss Hilda E. Simmons in memory of her cousin. Awarded on the basis of recommendation by the School of Nursing to a student of high academic standing entering the final year of the Nursing Degree program.

The Olga Merz Memorial Scholarship in Nursing
3 x $1,000 (MOSNI)
Established in 1994, by her husband William Merz in her loving memory. Awarded to a high ranking student entering the second, third or fourth year of the Nursing program who demonstrates outstanding care-giving, by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Mary O'Rourke Nursing Award
$640 (MONAI)
Established in 2000 by Mary O'Rourke. Awarded to a student entering the third or fourth year of the Nursing program, on the basis of academic standing and dedication to clients. The recipient will be determined on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.


SOCIAL WORK

Hubert Badanai Scholarship - Social Work
$700 (HBSSI)
Awarded on the basis of high academic standing to a second or third year student registered in the Honours Bachelor of Social Work Degree program.

The Jennifer Lynn Webster and Andrew Jussi Wierikko Award
$250 (WJWJI)
Established by their uncle, Bob Welsh, in appreciation of the joy, wonder, and excitement that Jennifer Webster and Andrew Wierikko have created as the youngest niece and nephew of the extended Welsh Family. Awarded to an Honours Bachelor of Social Work student who has completed Social Work 3630 - Social Work Practice with Children and Families, or Social Work 3413 - Child Welfare. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the School of Social Work.
