University Library

Connecting you to a world of information...

Lakehead University Library provides a wide range of information resources and services to support the needs of both students and faculty in all subject areas and from any location on or off campus.

The Lakehead University Library system consists of The Chancellor Norman M. Paterson Library and the Education Library representing the largest research collection in Northwestern Ontario. The total collection includes over 780,000 books, over 9,000 print and electronic journal subscriptions, nearly 687,000 microform volumes and various special collections unique to Northwestern Ontario.

The Library's web-based catalogue, Endeavor's Voyager provides a single access point for the Library's holdings and a variety of resources including indexes, abstracts, e-books and full text electronic journals and government publications. The Library's electronic journal collection has increased significantly in the past years and continues to expand.

In addition, access to the internet is available at workstations throughout the Library as well as in two computer labs in the Library. The labs are equipped with 41 computers for student use. Students also have access to a scanner in each of these labs. A few laptop computers are also available from the Circulation Desk for students to borrow for use within the Library.

The Chancellor Norman M. Paterson Library is the main library on campus and is open 94 hours per week with extended hours during examination periods. This newly renovated six floor building provides study space for 365 students as well as group study rooms and a separate graduate student study area. At the beginning of the Fall and Winter terms, the Library offers a voluntary library orientation program to all students.

The Education Library is located on the first floor of the Bora Laskin building and is the primary information resource for the Faculty of Education. This library is open an average of 60 hours per week with extended hours to accommodate students on their teaching placements. In addition to the Education Library book and periodical collection, this library also maintains a non-print collection of all aspects of education with special emphasis on primary and secondary education, curriculum development and educational administration.
