Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (Interdisciplinary Studies Major) (O)

Three Year program

An overall 60% average through each year is required in the Interdisciplinary Studies Major, any additional elective Interdisciplinary Studies courses taken, and any additional elective courses taken in the disciplinary area. The Interdisciplinary Studies Major consists of 6 FCEs: one (1) FCE of Interdisciplinary Studies courses and five (5) FCEs in the disciplinary area.

Note 1:

All students will satisfactorily complete two Interdisciplinary Studies courses: one-half (0.5) full course equivalents (FCE) at first-year level and one-half (0.5) FCE at third-year level.

Note 2:

Students must complete five (5) full-course equivalents (FCEs) in a discipline: one (1) FCE at the first-year level, two (2) FCEs at the second-year level, and two (2) FCEs at the third or fourth year level. Eligible disciplines are Anthropology, Biology, Criminology, English, General Science (as defined as a “Teachable” by the Faculty of Education), Geography, History, Media, Film, and Communications, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Women's Studies, or permission of the Chair of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. 

Note 3:

By the end of three years (15 FCEs), at least three (3) FCEs must be Type A (Humanities) or Type B (Social Sciences) courses; at least three (3) FCEs must be Type C (Engineering, Mathematical and Natural Sciences) or Type D (Health and Behavioural Sciences) courses; and at least one-half (0.5) FCE must be Type E courses. The Indigenous Content Requirement is being met by the inclusion of one-half FCE chosen from the list of Type E courses taken as an elective in any year of the program.

Note 4:

In Second Year, BASc students must complete one of the following methodological courses: Anthropology 2517, Biology 2910, Criminology 2090, English 2913, Environmental Sustainability 2033, Geography 2251, Geography 2271, Mathematics 2310, Media, Film, and Communications 2230, Philosophy 2413, Psychology 2110, Psychology 2112, Sociology 2911.


First Year:

(a) One-half FCE in first year Interdisciplinary Studies
(b) One FCE in discipline
(c) Three and one-half FCE electives (Note the Type A, B, C, D, and E courses requirement.)

Second Year:

(a) Two FCEs in discipline at second year level
(b) One FCE elective at second-year level or higher
(c) Two FCE electives (Note the Type A, B, C, D, and E courses requirement.)

Third Year:

(a) Two FCEs in discipline at third or fourth year level
(b) One-half FCE in third year Interdisciplinary Studies
(c) One half-course elective at third or fourth-year level
(d) Two FCE electives at second-year level or higher (Note the Type A, B, C, D, and E courses requirement.)
