Lakehead University Indigenous Transition Year Program Information

The Indigenous Transition Year Program is offered by Lakehead University to people of Indigenous descent who do not meet the regular or mature student admission criteria and who require additional academic preparation and skills to become eligible for admission. On successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply for admission to continue their studies in selected first year programs at Lakehead University. Students considering a career in Nursing should refer to the Native Nurses Entry Program.

The Indigenous transition Year Program is structured in such a way as to provide academic skills and special preparation to enable students to undertake successfully degree courses and achieve success in university programs. Students study in a culturally supportive and friendly environment with special academic programming is offered along with tutoring, academic counselling, and a related support network to provide the student with an atmosphere conducive to successful program completion. The curriculum includes core courses in English and University Transitions, Indigenous Learning, Mathematics and Science.
