Honours Bachelor of Arts (Economics Major)(TB)

Four Year program
A student may enter the Honours BA program in economics after the first year, providing a 70% average has been attained in Economics 1100 and one other full course acceptable to the Chair of the Department. An overall 70% average in at least four courses in Economics taken in the first two years, and an overall 70% average in the Economics courses taken in each of the succeeding years, is required by the department. Students are encouraged to choose their courses in consultation with the Chair of the Department of Economics.

First Year:
(a) Economics 1100
(b) One FCE from  Type A or from History or Mathematics
(c) One FCE from Type B
(d) One-half FCE from Type E course list
(e) One and one-half FCE electives

Second Year:
(a) Economics 2017 and 2037, 2115 and 2117, 2203
(b) Two FCEs elective courses (Economics excluded)

Third Year:
(a) Two third year FCEs courses in Economics
(b) One FCE from Type B at the third or fourth year level (Economics excluded)
(c) Economics 3117
(d) One and one half FCEs elective courses (one-half of which may be an Economics course)

Fourth Year:
(a) Economics 4217
(b) Economics 4901
(c) Two and one half FCEs in Economics with at least one half course at the fourth or fifth year level
(d) One FCE elective(s)

Note: The Indigenous Content Requirement is being met by the inclusion of 0.5 FCE chosen from the list of Type E courses taken as an elective in the first year of the program.

Four-year Non-Direct Entry program option

Bachelor of Arts (Economics Major) 4-year

This program option is for Honours students that are academically ineligible to continue in or complete the Honours program.

The program requirements are the same as for the HBA (Economics Major) program except that students shall not take the honours thesis (Economics 4901) and will take instead two half-courses in Economics at the third or fourth year level, as indicated below. In order to remain in the program, students must maintain at least an overall C average in the major.

Fourth Year:
(a) Economics 4217
(b) Two half-courses in Economics at the third or fourth year level
(c) Two and one half FCEs in Economics with at least one half course at the fourth or fifth year level
(d) One FCE elective(s)
