An examination of the contemporary politics in one of the areas of the Third World: Asia, Africa, or Latin America. The major institutions, degree of democratization and the role of the political system in promoting economic development are analyzed. Topics which may be explored are: historical background, colonial experience, nationalism and nation-building, nature and extent of pluralism, government structures, party systems, role of the army and the transition to democracy.
