A survey of 20th Century German history from World War I to Reunification. A chronological and thematic approach will lead students through Germany’s transformation from an authoritarian empire, democratic republic, dictatorship, national division, and reunification after the collapse of the Cold War. Close readings of primary source documents will acquaint students with the social and cultural consequences of Germany’s many political upheavals.
