Sociology 2012 LGBT Communities
An overview of the socio-historical origins and transformations of LGBT communities in Canada and abroad, with particular attention to major social struggles, political conflicts, and race, ethnic, and gender differences. Emphasis is on how sociologists have empirically studied sexual norms, identities, behavior, hidden communities, and social movements. Topics include: legislation and reform, notable events and public figures, identity politics, policing and regulation, community ghettoization, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and mass media influence.
