A study of seventeenth-century prose, poetry, and drama organized around one or more themes, including genre, form, gender, authority, Civil War writing, the “New World” and/or the New Science. Writers to be covered may include Donne, Lanyer, Wroth, Jonson, Webster, Bacon, Burton, Browne, Herbert, Crashaw, Vaughan, Herrick, Carew, Cavendish, Lovelace, Milton, Marvell, and Philips.
